Hong Kong harbour helicopter scenic tour

Ride as a passenger in the Peninsula Hotel helicopter, with a guide on screen, over Central, Shun Tak, Wan Chai and Hung Hom.

There is a new mode on the home screen: Hong Kong harbour helicopter scenic tour. You ride as a passenger in the Peninsula Hotel helicopter, with a guide on screen, on a four-minute flight over Victoria Harbour.

What is new

  • You sit in the left window seat on the rear bench of the S-76, with two pilots in front of you. The rotors spin up on the Peninsula roof, you lift off and the helicopter banks and climbs as it flies.
  • The route runs from Tsim Sha Tsui across the harbour to Central, west to the Shun Tak ferry terminal, east past Wan Chai and Causeway Bay, then over Hung Hom and back to the rooftop. Kai Tak is in view across the bay and the jets keep landing.
  • Captions name what you are passing. They follow the sim clock, so rewind and fast-forward show the right one. There are English and Cantonese versions.
  • Drag to look around. The Flight views menu has Helicopter cabin and Helicopter exterior, and you can speed up time, pick any weather and time of day, and turn the map on.
  • The rotor and turbine sound, and the vibration of the cabin, rise with the rotor speed. The tour starts again when the helicopter has landed.

What is made up

  • The route, speeds and captions are ours. The captions use only the facts in the research notes (docs/helicopters.md) and the landmarks that are in the sim.
  • In this mode the helicopter flies in any weather you pick, even a typhoon. In the other modes the hotel flights stay on the ground.

What did not change

  • The tour runs on the sim clock like the rest of Plane Spotter, so rewind and fast-forward work.
  • The autopilot still lands in every weather preset, and flying with no input still ends in a crash.

有咩新嘢

  • 你坐喺 S-76 後排長凳嘅左面窗口位，前面有兩位機師。旋翼喺半島天台轉起上嚟，然後起飛，直升機會傾側同爬升。
  • 路線由尖沙咀飛過維港去中環，再向西去信德中心港澳碼頭，轉向東經灣仔同銅鑼灣，跟住飛過紅磡返回天台。對岸可以望到啟德，客機不停降落。
  • 字幕會講出你經過嘅地方。字幕跟模擬時鐘，所以倒帶同快進都會顯示啱嘅一句，有英文同廣東話兩個版本。
  • 拖動畫面環顧四周。「飛行視角」選單有「直升機機艙」同「直升機外觀」，亦可以加快時間、揀任何天氣同時間，或者開啟地圖。
  • 旋翼同渦輪嘅聲音、機艙震動會跟旋翼轉速上升。直升機降落後，旅程會重新開始。

邊啲係虛構

  • 路線、速度同字幕都係我哋自己寫嘅。字幕只用研究筆記（docs/helicopters.md）入面嘅資料，同模擬器入面有嘅地標。
  • 喺呢個模式，直升機任何天氣都會飛，連颱風都飛。其他模式入面，酒店航班喺惡劣天氣會留喺地面。

有咩冇變

  • 旅程跟模擬時鐘行，同觀機模式一樣，所以倒帶同快進照用得。
  • 自動駕駛喺所有天氣預設都仍然降落到，冇操控嘅話仍然會墜機。

The checkerboard turn tightens at the end
