Star Ferry piers, boats and timetable
Central, Tsim Sha Tsui and Wan Chai piers, the green-and-white boats, and the Kowloon clock tower, on a timetable that follows the sim clock.
The Star Ferry now crosses Victoria Harbour the way it did in 1998: green-and-white boats, three piers and a timetable. The Kowloon clock tower stands beside the Tsim Sha Tsui terminal.
What is new
- The boat. A double-ended ferry with a dark green hull, black tyre fenders, a white saloon with a window band, a smaller saloon above with a white roof edged in green, a wheelhouse and a mast at each end, a black funnel with a white band and a row of lifebuoys. The windows glow at night.
- The piers. Central (Edinburgh Place), Tsim Sha Tsui and Wan Chai each have a hall with a STAR FERRY sign in English and Chinese, and finger piers with canopies and the pier name at the tip. Central also has its own clock tower.
- The Kowloon clock tower. The old Kowloon-Canton Railway Clock Tower now stands next to the Tsim Sha Tsui terminal: red brick and granite, four clock faces, a lantern and a pyramid roof. Its clocks, and the one at Central, show the sim's time of day.
- The timetable. Central to Tsim Sha Tsui runs from 06:30 to 23:30, with a sailing about every 6 to 12 minutes each way and a crossing of about 9 minutes. Wan Chai to Tsim Sha Tsui runs from 07:30 to 23:00, about every 10 minutes, with a crossing of about 8 minutes. The boats leave on the minute, berth at each pier, and lie at their berths before the first sailing and after the last.
- The crossing. Each boat leaves its berth straight out, crosses the harbour keeping to starboard so the two directions pass each other, and slows into its berth.
What is made up
- The sailing pattern follows the Star Ferry's published weekday timetable for Central to Tsim Sha Tsui. The Wan Chai figures (every 10 minutes, 8 minutes across) are our own, between the published peak and off-peak intervals.
- The boat and the piers are built by eye from photographs. The pier signs are plain text, with no logo.
- The old Hung Hom routes are gone: they ended in open water, so the sim now runs the two routes above.
What did not change
- The autopilot still lands in every weather preset, and flying with no input still ends in a crash.
- The ferries follow the time of day you pick on the home screen, and the sim clock after that, so time speed and the day, dusk and night presets all work.
